Leukemia is actually a very tricky disease that may be very hard to diagnose at early stages, but there are certain cautionary measures that can be undertaken to prevent the disease. These measures will also have to do with changes in one’s lifestyle. People are actually advised to avoid exposing themselves to herbicides, insecticides and other chemicals to reduce the risks of contacting the disease.

Medics have also argued that Leukemia, in some cases, may be in the genes of a particular bloodline. If there is a history of Leukemia in one’s lineage, there is a high chance of striking a member of the same lineage. It is also necessary to see a doctor for check-up if one notices exaggerated weight loss. Medics also argue that people who exercise regularly have low chances of developing the leukemia. (more…)

Dietary Support To Ease Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

Published: Jul 18th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

If you are suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms while trying to kick your habit, making some dietary changes can also help you during this process. These changes may sound pretty common sense but they are nonetheless important, so that you can truly become alcohol free and be put back in good health.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include the following: trembling or shaking, various physical reactions, anxiety, insomnia and mental disturbances. This happens especially when you go cold turkey; that is you stop your habit of taking in large amounts of alcohol all of a sudden. Since your brain has already been used to the chemicals that come from your daily consumption of alcohol, withdrawing from alcohol can cause the said symptoms.

On a regular basis, your brain chemistry has already been accustomed to make up for the sedative. Your brain starts pumping out chemical relatives to adrenaline in amounts that your body is not meant to be exposed to on a regular basis. When this happens, you get a turbocharged brain that is sedated as well. However, once you take away the sedative of a racing brain, you can imagine that this would stimulate your brain even further.

Your highly charged brain will then cause you to have mental and bodily disturbances. In fact, if you do not manage your alcohol withdrawal symptoms properly, you may on the contrary cause harm to your body and mind. It will be a good idea to have a professional to help you through this period. In the meantime, you should also consider making some dietary changes can help reduce these effects and help put you towards recovery.

First, you should stop eating junk and processed foods and drinks as well as, coffee and dairy related products. While it may sound too much to ask from a recovering alcoholic, that is you not only have to give up your drinks but also all the unhealthy food, you may find it easier to stay sober when you are taught to eat healthily at the same time. Wholesome foods in particular fruits and vegetables can help repair the damage wreaked by the excessive and prolonged alcohol consumption. These components in the diet also help to reduce cravings for alcohol.

You also need to drink plenty of filtered water. Water helps to flush out toxins from your body and that includes the excess alcohol stored in your body. You will feel rejuvenated when you replace alcohol with good pure water.

It is also necessary to provide some much needed vitamin and mineral supplements for additional support. In particular, B vitamins are said to be especially helpful as alcoholics are likely to be deficient in these. You may also be suffering from internal injuries and damage as a result of alcohol abuse. Your doctor can help you identify which supplements to take to help repair tissue cells of the affected organ. If you have ulcers, you would also need to eat many small meals.

Once you begin to eat healthily, you may want to stay more at home to prepare these meals and away from the bars and pubs. Eating healthily is also good if you also have high blood pressures or cholesterol problems that you have to deal with.

By not putting harmful substances and toxins inside you and making a step towards healthier eating, you are more likely to remain alcohol free. You will find it easier to cope with alcohol withdrawal symptoms when you have a clear understanding of these. Alcohol is definitely toxins to your body and an addiction to it is something that you are better without!

What’s a Realistic Amount of Weight Loss After a Month on Medifast? I’ll Tell You

Published: Dec 17th, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

I recently heard from someone who had a very specific goal of losing 15 pounds in a month. She had an important outing coming up and she wanted to look her best. She wanted to know if this goal was possible after a month of Medifast meals. And, she wanted to know if perhaps there was a way to reach this goal sooner so that she could order the individual foods rather than the package. I will tell you my opinion on this in the following article.

The Amount Of Weight That The Average Person Will Lose After A Month Of Medifast: To figure out this calculation, there are a couple of places to look. You can look at the information that the company provides in its literature. You can look at other people’s personal experiences. And, you can look at the clinical studies that have been conducted on this diet.

The Medifast company literature gives the range of 2 – 5 pounds lost per week as a range that most people find themselves in. And, many forums and weight loss blog posts will indicate that this is reasonably accurate (although like with most things, there are some who do better than this and some who do worse.) In terms of clinical studies, you can consider the John Hopkins study that was conducted over 16 weeks. The men in the study lost an average of 69.71 pounds. The women lost an average of 47.5 pounds. The average of these two is 58.6 pounds. This averages out to be 3.66 pounds per week. (more…)

GM Diet Review – How Does the General Motors Diet Work?

Published: Dec 17th, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

One of the greatest “urban legends” of the weight loss world is the General Motors diet, also known as the GM diet. This is a 7 day eating plan which is rumored to have been developed by GM in the 1980s to help workers lose weight. As far as I know, GM has never admitted to actually producing such a plan.

As of now, there is no official General Motors diet, there is no one who claims ownership or responsibility for this program, but it has still remained popular and well sought even after all these years.

There are several strict rules in this diet:

No alcohol is permitted
You have to drink a lot of water, at least 10 glasses each and every day
You can have water, soda, sugarless black tea, and sugarless black coffee. On the 7th day of the diet you’re also allowed fruit juices.
The program itself is a structured eating plan of 7 days. According to some sources, you can repeat the 7 day cycles as many times as you like it is all up to how much you need to lose and how well the diet agrees with you.
Here is how the 7 days are laid out: (more…)

A Consistent Diet Is The Key To Health Weight Loss

Published: Sep 15th, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

Most of the times, the necessary body building diet that can drive our training into the thresholds of success is not exactly what we would rather eat if we were let to choose. Yet the healthy foods you must eat, the dieting schedules you must keep and the consistency you must observe are not only good for you muscle pursuit but also for your health.

Like most conventions, even dieting for a body building program sometimes becomes a bore and we feel very low emotionally. We loose the psyche to cook and eat the same, same food over and over again, without breaking the trend and buying some fries and chocolate once in a while. This very eventuality is what makes it hard to diet, the fact that we are limited in what you should eat. Were there no limitation and no requirement, say for example what you eat is all that is available, you would not be bored or lustful to eat the junk anyway. (more…)

The 2 foods that will make you fat I’m going to chat about in my article will astound you… most people by mistake consider these 2 foods are “healthy”. Ever since I can remember these 2 foods generally surprise friends and family when I point out they should consider eliminating these foods from their diet.

Just about everyone these days recognize how bad trans fats and high fructose corn syrup are for you, so I worked out instead of giving another article about these 2 terrible foods… I write about 2 foods that will alarm you, and help make you chubby or may be the reason why you are currently plump. Weight loss diet pill guarantees – what do they really offer?

Published: Sep 9th, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

You could argue that a guarantee is a guarantee. That it doesn’t matter as long as the weight loss supplement works.

But here is the thing.

Which diet pill would you feel more confident in? The one that can offer you a 180 day money back guarantee (Proactolâ„¢) or one that only lasts 2 weeks (Hoodia Gordonii Diet Pills)?

If we’re honest, the one that offers a 180 day money back guarantee looks the most appealing. Why? Because it gives you chance to truly test the effectiveness of the product; to see if it does actually work for you in the long term and not for just a few weeks. Plus you can use it safe in the knowledge that if it doesn’t work you can get a full refund. (more…)

A Balanced Diet – The Basics

Published: Sep 1st, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

Since our childhood we have been taught that a balanced diet is the key to healthy living. But as we grow and get indulged in our daily lives, we forget the importance of a balanced diet. It becomes, at times, that it does not matter what we are eating at all. This is so because eating is an intrinsic habit of our lives and we tend to forget that whatever we are is because of what we eat. If something worth is not going in then surely one day we will be seeing it on our face. We forget that having a proper meal three-four times is as essential as is completing the project on hand. We should not let anything take over the importance of our diet.

A balanced diet is a diet that takes care of all the needs of our body. It is a diet that comprises fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, salts and carbohydrates in the proper amounts. It refers to a diet that contains everything from vegetables, to milk, to milk products and fruits. It should be adequate enough to satisfy the body’s needs, keeping a check on the calorie intake as well. A balanced diet not only gives you a healthy living but also a better appearance. Having a balanced diet daily helps you in maintaining your weight and remaining fit. And if you are fit, you remain relaxed, energized and happy. Thus, a balanced diet helps you live a perfect life.
